IMPORTANT: Inmarsat - Satellite Repositioning Programme
As part of Inmarsat's ongoing satellite repositioning programme, Inmarsat's satellite phone services (SPS) will be transferred from the Inmarsat-4 (I-4) F1 to the I-4 F2 satellite from 08:00 UTC on Friday, 6 February 2009.
The affected services are IsatPhone, LandPhone and FleetPhone.
From 08:00 UTC on 6 February, within a window of approximately one hour, end-users will experience a short outage while these services are transferred.
When service resumes on the I-4 F2 satellite, the following actions by end-users are required:
- Users of IsatPhone, the hand-held satellite phone service, will need to re-point their handset antennas at the I-4 F2 satellite in its new in-orbit location at 25 degrees East.
- Users of LandPhone, the semi-fixed satellite phone service, will need to re-point their antenna, but in addition may also need to relocate the antenna to avoid blockages caused by buildings or other objects that now fall into the line of sight of the repositioned I-4 F2 satellite.
- Users of FleetPhone, the maritime communications service, will automatically lock on to the new satellite and need take no further action.
The transfer of the satellite phone services (SPS) to the I-4 F2 satellite, commencing at 08:00 UTC on 6 February, also marks the start of the second and final planned I-4 outage for these services, to enable the repositioning of the I-4 F1 satellite to 143.5 degrees East. The outage will last until 24 February, and will affect a limited number of IsatPhone, LandPhone and FleetPhone users in parts of Asia-Pacific.
Distribution partners and service providers are requested to contact end-users likely to be affected by this planned 19-day outage, and to provide them with relevant information and support.
Further information about the repositioning programme, including coverage maps, can be found on the Inmarsat website under Support.
